Opted for the blasted Aluminium due to the carpet being weathered and not exactly black.
Apparently, the factory pedal extensions are installe dthe same way, but I didn't know how to install the extensions...
Pics and a small description can be found on the Saab Club of Seattle facebook page.

Remove the factory pedals (I cut them with a box-cutter).
Place a wood block under the pedal for a solid surface to drill.
I fixed the pedals with 3M moulding adhesive tape and drilled.
I drilled with the pedals in place to use the pedals as a guide.
(wear goggles and use a paper towel to catch shavings)
3/16" bit is a bit tight, but wriggling it will enlarge the hole.
Pop the hex screw in, secure nut with 8mm wrench.
Tighten the hex screw with drill with slow, low torque setting.
Proceed to diagonally opposing holes for good results.
Check alignment of pedal frequently.
I ended up leaving the 3M tape under the pedal (laziness).

The materials and the grooves grip your feet quite nicely. Purposefully built and it looks good, nestled in the driver's footwell.
Installation took about 30 minutes. The first hole is a nervous one - subsequent ones are a breeze.
requires you to remove the sill, peel back the rubber seal, and the carpet a bit.
