Not only shortens the shift distance but removes a lot of the loose feel of the stock gear shifter. This is probably because the stock unit is a nylon bearing held in place on the rod by rubber bushings, whereas this unit is a metal bearing. Installation was a couple of hours, most of which was trying to get the knob off the old shifter.
