I don't know which batch of knobs were bought by the other reviewers, but the one I got in the mail today is excellent. A little bit of Leather conditioner should make it even more supple. The shift pattern cap popped off in a different way and the underside is much different, so it is definitely different from the OEM one that came with my Viggen, but still factory (with GM decal on package). The Vig's original shift pattern button was clearcoated aluminium, whereas the new one is plastic. No worries - I got a GS shift-pattern roundel, so I immediately popped it off (easy to do) and replaced with the CNC'd GS knob-top. Looks great, feels great. No complaints from me.
