I tried the shifter cable reinforcement, and saw a nice difference. The next day I installed the shifter mount kit and this short shift kit. They all work nice, but are wonderful when all three are installed together. I have a 2010 9-3, so I had to trim the plastic as seen in the illustration given on the main page. I didn't have to take apart everything and remove. I just unbolted the shifter and turned it on its side. I used a multi-tool to trim the plastic. It was clean and easy. Many manufactures make the multi-tool, but the cheapest is harbor freight for about $17, and has many more uses. I also used an angle grinder to remove the old piece. Over all I think this is a very nice set up while keeping the stock appearance, and would definitely recommend.
