I bought a 2000 9-3 conv. 5 speed back in Sept. I love the car, but did not like some of the handling characteristics (major torque steer-which is really a problem when driving a 5 speed since only one hand is on the wheel when accelerating hard and winding through the gears, excessive body lean through turns, and cowel shake). I decided to buy this steering rack brace kit along with the rear sway bar. I ordered it on Monday and they arrived on Thursday. I just put in the steering rack brace and took it for a spin. All I can say is THANK YOU TALIAFERRO! The torque steer is GONE!. I do notice a slight more amount of road feel coming through the steering wheel, but i actually like this. Truth is, it is very minor and I only noticed it because I just installed the thing and was really trying to see what the differences were. The installation was not difficult (I was surprised that no instructions were provided but found the installation photos on this site). It took me about an hour to install. Some helpful hints. The upper strut brace gets in the way, so if you are planning on replacing that too it would make this job easier to remove the factory one, then install this rack brace, then install the new strut brace. I also found working on the lower bolt to be a bit of a challenge since you can't see it. One last thing to note. You do not have to remove the front right wheel as I have seen suggested in order to get at the nut on the bolt that goes through the wheel well, I just turned the wheel all the way to the left, which allowed me to put my 10 mm box wrench on the nut inside the wheel well and then reached over the fender to tighten the bolt with a 10 mm socket. Getting my torque wrench on the bolts was a challenge (upper strut brace gets in the way) but hopefully I got the torques OK. I will re-check after 100 miles as they suggest. Next on the list is the rear sway bar, then I plan on installing the upper strut brace and the 6 point sub frame brace. I plan on doing each upgrade one at a time and will report back the results. As far as this one goes - it's a no brainer. Everyone with this car needs to install this. In my opinion, it should be viewed as a safety feature (of course, it also increases the fun factor too!) It's hard to believe Saab let this model out of the factory without this.
