The kit does the job. The other review suggests nearly 100g of oil for the 9-3 filter, which is WAY too much. The point of the precision kit is to thwart over-oiling, which everyone tends to do if going by what seems right. This is especially relevant for us because the filter mounts directly to the MAF sensor. Excess oil gets on the hot wires of the MAF and burns, the residue causes incorrect MAF readings, and the engine misbehaves.
On S&B's website, the model with the closest dimensions (R1197) calls for 36g, with an additional 7g for the "power stack" smaller cone. If you want to split hairs, that one has about 2.7% greater surface area, so you can use 1 gram less.
Great news is that you'll get 10 uses from the bottle, and there's plenty of cleaner. If your MAF got boogered up by this or the K&N filter, you can clean the wires with MAF cleaner and a Q-tip, but you need to disassemble it to clean the side facing the intake. For peace of mind, buy a new MAF here.
Thanks!
